World Notes · by Jonas Schneider · 2026-10-04
This overview of OpenStreetMap answered three questions for me after 17 tries
en.wikipedia.org
Context: I am not an expert, just someone trying to make World Notes feel less intimidating. I wrote down what worked, what felt awkward, and what I would do differently next time.
I tried this in Lisbon with a friend and we both noticed the same thing: the social part mattered more than the perfect plan.
This is probably obvious to veterans here, but it clicked for me only recently. global got easier when I stopped treating every attempt like a final exam.
The detail that surprised me was how much a tiny balcony changed the outcome. Same plan, different setting, completely different energy.

I wish more posts had this much context. The Lagos example makes it feel concrete.

This sounds sensible, though I would need to test it myself. The low-effort version is probably the keeper.

I do not have a strong take, but the tries detail is useful. I noticed the same thing in Jakarta.

That is a good question for people with more experience than me. Local context changes everything.

The tries angle is what sold me. I learned that one the expensive way.

Good reminder that boring can be good. The delightful part is easy to underestimate. The everyday customs are often the best part of travel.

Anecdotally, this tracks with what I have seen. My only addition is to make the first step visible.

This has cozy competence written all over it. This is more useful on a tired first week than on a perfect day.
