A surprisingly useful lesson from my desk in Cairo

I had a disappointing first try, a surprisingly good second try, and then a third attempt that taught me humility. So, naturally, I now have opinions.

My current rule is simple: if it takes less than 10 minutes to prepare, I am much more likely to keep doing it.

The detail that surprised me was how much the library changed the outcome. Same plan, different setting, completely different energy.

I started this because my late summer felt a little stuck, and questions seemed like a manageable place to experiment. The funny part is that the smallest change was the one I kept.

This is genuinely helpful, thanks for writing it out. I would love to see a follow-up after 3 weeks.

That made the concept click.

I needed the reminder to start smaller.

That last line is excellent. The delightful part is easy to underestimate.

Excellent timing; I was just thinking about cairo. I used to overcomplicate this constantly.

I am stealing that phrase.

Small caveat: context changes the answer a lot.

Totally agree, especially for beginners.

I love this. It feels practical without pretending life is neat. The the library detail changes the whole answer.

That last line is excellent. I care less about the perfect answer and more about repeatability.

I get the appeal, though I would be careful calling it the best option. The delightful part is easy to underestimate.

My first thought was cost, then time, then whether I would remember to do it.

Helpful and not preachy, which is rare. The Warsaw example makes it feel concrete.

That is a surprisingly elegant way to frame it.

This reminds me of something a friend in Cape Town mentioned. For me it came down to the setup.
