A beginner mistake I am weirdly glad I made

Part of me wanted the fancy version with all the tools. The better version was boring: one notebook, one reminder, and a willingness to be clumsy with the routine for a while.

I tried this in Melbourne with a friend and we both noticed the same thing: the social part mattered more than the perfect plan.

Would love to hear how other people handle this. I am especially curious about the version that works on a tired weekday, not just on an ideal Sunday.

I had a disappointing first try, a surprisingly good second try, and then a third attempt that taught me humility. So, naturally, I now have opinions.

This sounds sensible, though I would need to test it myself. This is more useful on a tired busy month than on a perfect day. I love details that only make sense once you've been there.

I like this more than the top-level advice.

Anecdotally, this tracks with what I have seen. My friend tried it in São Paulo and had the opposite result.

I think both things can be true.

This is the kind of disagreement I like.

I needed the reminder to start smaller.

I would not call it wrong, just incomplete. Honestly, the simplest version wins for me.

Amazing how much difference one small change can make. I would test it for 5 days before deciding. The everyday customs are often the best part of travel.

Kind of wild how often change is the whole issue.

Helpful and not preachy, which is rare. The 10-minute rule is underrated.

There is a hidden assumption here that not everyone shares. I noticed the same thing in Madrid.

Useful intention, poor execution. The social part surprised me too.

I do not have a strong take, but the glad detail is useful. I would test it for 3 days before deciding.
