The cozy joy of doing the routine badly at first without making it complicated
A few notes from my attempt:
- keep the first step visible
- remove one annoying decision
- celebrate the boring repeat
I know this is a tiny sample size, but after 5 attempts the pattern is pretty clear. When I keep the setup simple, I actually follow through.
Part of me wanted the fancy version with all the tools. The better version was boring: one notebook, one reminder, and a willingness to be clumsy with the setup for a while.
This is probably obvious to veterans here, but it clicked for me only recently. tools got easier when I stopped treating every attempt like a final exam.

The kindness in this post is lovely. My friend tried it in Buenos Aires and had the opposite result.

Same here. It took me too long to learn.

The vibe here is immaculate. I am curious whether home still feels good next month.

Good reminder that boring can be good.

There is probably a middle ground here. I would test it for 2 days before deciding.

I like this more than the top-level advice.

Amazing how much difference one small change can make. A little friction removed goes a long way.

This feels like advice from a patient friend. I would write it down before changing anything else.
