The delightful joy of doing the setup badly at first without making it complicated
Part of me wanted the fancy version with all the tools. The better version was boring: one notebook, one reminder, and a willingness to be clumsy with the setup for a while.
I know this is a tiny sample size, but after 8 attempts the pattern is pretty clear. When I keep the setup simple, I actually follow through.
A few notes from my attempt:
- keep the first step visible
- remove one annoying decision
- celebrate the boring repeat

Did anyone else read this and immediately make a tiny checklist? The first week version is even more interesting. I would love to see the benchmark numbers.

I do not have a strong take, but the doing detail is useful. I would love to see a follow-up after 2 weeks. Naming things remains undefeated as the hardest problem.

I appreciate the honest middle stage, not just the polished ending. It sounds small, but the tiny repair matters.

Interesting. I would like to see how it changes after 9 months. I keep a note about tools for exactly this reason. This is exactly the kind of tradeoff teams argue about for weeks.

That is fair, but I still worry about maintenance.

I love this. It feels practical without pretending life is neat. It reminds me of a very specific conversation near my desk.

Good clarification — I read it differently at first.

Wonderful detail. It makes the whole thing feel real. I would write it down before changing anything else.

This feels like advice from a patient friend.
