Unpopular Opinions · by Ayesha Khan · 2026-10-06

My 10-month experiment with culture from my winter notes

Context: I am not an expert, just someone trying to make Unpopular Opinions feel less intimidating. I wrote down what worked, what felt awkward, and what I would do differently next time.

> Tiny progress is still progress.

That line sounds cheesy, but it got me through the part where debate stopped feeling new.

Part of me wanted the fancy version with all the tools. The better version was boring: one notebook, one reminder, and a willingness to be clumsy with the recipe for a while.

My current rule is simple: if it takes less than 5 minutes to prepare, I am much more likely to keep doing it.

Great point, especially the part about winter. This pairs weirdly well with bibimbap.

Appreciate the nuance.

Good reminder that boring can be good. This is where I would ask one more question before choosing.

I had a similar experience, but my problem was consistency rather than motivation. That is where the boring checklist helps.

That is fair, but I still worry about maintenance.

Great point, especially the part about notes. I would write it down before changing anything else.

That last line is excellent. My only addition is to make the first step visible. Glad you shared the messy version too.

Helpful correction.

The conclusion is too broad, but the example is interesting. This would have saved me a lot of trial and error. I needed this reminder today.

Same here. It took me too long to learn.

Could be regional too.

Can you expand on that a bit?

Beautifully concise.

Love the tiny experiment energy. The 10-minute rule is underrated.

I think both things can be true.

Honestly, this is a little too vague to be useful. My friend tried it in Cairo and had the opposite result.

I am curious what changed your mind.

Adding this to my notes.

I was going to disagree, but your second sentence got me.

Respectfully, I see it the other way.

That sounds great until you add children/pets/deadlines.
