Explain Like I'm Five · by Rafael Almeida · 2026-10-07

A surprisingly useful lesson from a trailhead from my weekend notes

Would love to hear how other people handle this. I am especially curious about the version that works on a tired weekday, not just on an ideal Sunday.

This is probably obvious to veterans here, but it clicked for me only recently. simple got easier when I stopped treating every attempt like a final exam.

I tried this in Dublin with a friend and we both noticed the same thing: the social part mattered more than the perfect plan.

I had a disappointing first try, a surprisingly good second try, and then a third attempt that taught me humility. So, naturally, I now have opinions.

I would push back gently on the weekend part. I would write it down before changing anything else.

I am skeptical. The idea sounds good, but the maintenance cost is real. The busy month version is even more interesting. Glad you shared the messy version too.

Wonderful detail. It makes the whole thing feel real. I would write it down before changing anything else.

That made the concept click.

Good reminder that boring can be good. The the train station detail changes the whole answer.

I like the idea, but the setup probably matters a lot. I learned that one the expensive way.
