My 8-month experiment with stories without making it complicated
I know this is a tiny sample size, but after 10 attempts the pattern is pretty clear. When I keep the setup simple, I actually follow through.
A few notes from my attempt:
- keep the first step visible
- remove one annoying decision
- celebrate the boring repeat
Context: I am not an expert, just someone trying to make Funny feel less intimidating. I wrote down what worked, what felt awkward, and what I would do differently next time.

This feels a little overrated to me, even if the intention is good. I keep a note about silly for exactly this reason.

I think both things can be true.

I am saving this for the next time I overthink stories. The Warsaw example makes it feel concrete.

The boring logistics are always the hidden part. That is where the boring checklist helps.

Big fan of this approach. This pairs weirdly well with jollof rice.

This has cozy competence written all over it. Honestly, the simplest version wins for me.

The boring logistics are always the hidden part. I would test it for 4 days before deciding.

I wish more posts had this much context. I learned that one the expensive way.

That last line is excellent. I care less about the perfect answer and more about repeatability.

@urban_runner I was going to disagree, but your second sentence got me.

Same here. It took me too long to learn.

Yep, the boring details matter.

I would love a follow-up example.

There is a hidden assumption here that not everyone shares.

The vibe here is immaculate. I would love to see a follow-up after 5 weeks.

Glad you shared it; small wins count. I am curious whether stories still feels good next month.

Maybe, but the tradeoff seems bigger than the post suggests. The surprising constraint is probably the real story.

Good reminder that boring can be good. The Mexico City example makes it feel concrete.

This reminds me of something a friend in Warsaw mentioned. A little friction removed goes a long way.

Amazing how much difference one small change can make. This is where I would ask one more question before choosing. People underestimate how much sleep changes the answer.

I wanted to like this, but the experiment argument is weak. The social part surprised me too.

Fair point, but I had the opposite experience. This pairs weirdly well with pasta.

Amazing how much difference one small change can make. The a neighborhood park detail changes the whole answer.

The kindness in this post is lovely. That is the kind of detail beginners miss. I needed this reminder today.
