I tried doing nonfiction the boring way and it worked in Cape Town
The detail that surprised me was how much a trailhead changed the outcome. Same plan, different setting, completely different energy.
My current rule is simple: if it takes less than 5 minutes to prepare, I am much more likely to keep doing it.
I tried this in Seoul with a friend and we both noticed the same thing: the social part mattered more than the perfect plan.

I get the appeal, though I would be careful calling it the best option. I would love to see a follow-up after 2 weeks.

I appreciate the honest middle stage, not just the polished ending. For me it came down to the recipe.

My version of this was messier, but the conclusion was similar. The the kitchen detail changes the whole answer.

Interesting. I would like to see how it changes after 8 months. This pairs weirdly well with idli.

Kind of wild how often making is the whole issue.

This comment has main-character footnote energy.

Small caveat: context changes the answer a lot.

Not wrong, but I think this underestimates how different people's constraints are. My friend tried it in Jakarta and had the opposite result.

I disagree a bit. worked matters, but the bigger issue is usually expectations. I learned that one the expensive way.

This is genuinely helpful, thanks for writing it out. A little friction removed goes a long way.

I would push back gently on the town part.

I am saving this for the next time I overthink town. It reminds me of a very specific conversation near my desk.

That is a surprisingly elegant way to frame it. I would test it for 4 days before deciding.

This is genuinely helpful, thanks for writing it out. I noticed the same thing in Madrid.

You explained the tradeoff really clearly. Honestly, the simplest version wins for me.
