Vegan Kitchen · by Jiho Lee · 2026-10-07

I tried doing recipes the boring way and it worked from the kitchen

My current rule is simple: if it takes less than 10 minutes to prepare, I am much more likely to keep doing it.

I had a disappointing first try, a surprisingly good second try, and then a third attempt that taught me humility. So, naturally, I now have opinions.

Context: I am not an expert, just someone trying to make Vegan Kitchen feel less intimidating. I wrote down what worked, what felt awkward, and what I would do differently next time.

The vibe here is immaculate. For me it came down to the recipe.

This is the kind of useful internet I still show up for. I noticed the same thing in Cairo.

Short answer: yes. Long answer: also yes.

Same here. It took me too long to learn.

This comment has main-character footnote energy.

Wonderful detail. It makes the whole thing feel real. I would write it down before changing anything else.

Did anyone else read this and immediately make a tiny checklist?

I like this more than the top-level advice.

That sounds great until you add children/pets/deadlines.

I laughed, but you are not wrong.

You explained the tradeoff really clearly. A little friction removed goes a long way.

Small caveat: context changes the answer a lot.

The vibe here is immaculate. Honestly, the simplest version wins for me.

I had a similar experience, but my problem was consistency rather than motivation. For me it came down to the practice run. This is the kind of thing that tastes better the next day.

The boring logistics are always the hidden part. It reminds me of a very specific conversation near the train station.

This depends heavily on budget, time and personality. I would write it down before changing anything else.

Interesting. I would like to see how it changes after 6 months. I used to overcomplicate this constantly.

This reminds me of something a friend in Kuala Lumpur mentioned. The social part surprised me too.

Anecdotally, this tracks with what I have seen. I would test it for 8 days before deciding.

Noted, and thank you.

That last line is excellent. Honestly, the simplest version wins for me.

Maybe, but the tradeoff seems bigger than the post suggests. I used to overcomplicate this constantly.

That is a surprisingly elegant way to frame it. My only addition is to make the first step visible.

Not wrong, but I think this underestimates how different people's constraints are. The low-effort version is probably the keeper.

I like the idea, but the setup probably matters a lot. My friend tried it in Istanbul and had the opposite result.
