Today I Learned · by Tiago Costa · 2026-10-07

What would you rather spend a free Saturday doing for absolute beginners

This is probably obvious to veterans here, but it clicked for me only recently. history got easier when I stopped treating every attempt like a final exam.

I started this because my busy month felt a little stuck, and culture seemed like a manageable place to experiment. The funny part is that the smallest change was the one I kept.

I tried this in Kuala Lumpur with a friend and we both noticed the same thing: the social part mattered more than the perfect plan.

I picked Maybe later, mostly because it feels easiest to live with. My only addition is to make the first step visible.

This made me smile more than expected. For me it came down to the playlist. The follow-through matters more than the perfect plan.

I picked Only with help, mostly because it feels easiest to live with. The quiet constraint is probably the real story.

Yes, definitely got my vote. The other choices are good, but this one fits my week. I keep a note about culture for exactly this reason.

Respectfully, I see it the other way.

Do you think this would work in a smaller place than Buenos Aires? This would have saved me a lot of trial and error.

Surprised more people aren't choosing I need more context. It seems like the practical answer. This is more useful on a tired rainy evening than on a perfect day.

I am curious what changed your mind.

Big fan of this approach. It sounds small, but the playlist matters.

My wallet felt that.

Thanks for making it less intimidating.

This. Exactly this.

I was going to disagree, but your second sentence got me.

Kind of wild how often disagree is the whole issue.

I think both things can be true.

Surprised more people aren't choosing Maybe later. It seems like the practical answer. The delightful constraint is probably the real story.

That is the part people skip.

Adding this to my notes.

I get the appeal, though I would be careful calling it the best option. The Lisbon example makes it feel concrete.

I picked Maybe later, mostly because it feels easiest to live with. The quiet Sunday version is even more interesting.

Maya Williams · 0 likes

I think both things can be true.

Interesting. I would like to see how it changes after 5 months. The ambitious constraint is probably the real story.

Useful intention, poor execution. This is where I would ask one more question before choosing. Glad you shared the messy version too.

This. Exactly this.
