World Notes · by Lucas Dubois · 2026-10-08

I tried doing technology the boring way and it worked before coffee

Context: I am not an expert, just someone trying to make World Notes feel less intimidating. I wrote down what worked, what felt awkward, and what I would do differently next time.

I had a disappointing first try, a surprisingly good second try, and then a third attempt that taught me humility. So, naturally, I now have opinions.

The detail that surprised me was how much a coworking table changed the outcome. Same plan, different setting, completely different energy.

Part of me wanted the fancy version with all the tools. The better version was boring: one notebook, one reminder, and a willingness to be clumsy with the setup for a while.

You explained the tradeoff really clearly. I used to overcomplicate this constantly.

I am saving this for the next time I overthink doing. The Madrid example makes it feel concrete. Public transit stories are secretly sociology stories.

I think the bad version of this advice causes a lot of frustration. A little friction removed goes a long way.

I think both things can be true.

I needed the reminder to start smaller.

I appreciate the honest middle stage, not just the polished ending. The a coworking table detail changes the whole answer.

This feels a little overrated to me, even if the intention is good.

This has cozy competence written all over it. Honestly, the simplest version wins for me.
