Language Learning · by Liam Eriksson · 2026-10-08

A beginner mistake I am weirdly glad I made from my rainy evening notes

I know this is a tiny sample size, but after 4 attempts the pattern is pretty clear. When I keep the setup simple, I actually follow through.

This is probably obvious to veterans here, but it clicked for me only recently. study got easier when I stopped treating every attempt like a final exam.

Context: I am not an expert, just someone trying to make Language Learning feel less intimidating. I wrote down what worked, what felt awkward, and what I would do differently next time.

> Tiny progress is still progress.

That line sounds cheesy, but it got me through the part where languages stopped feeling new.

Beautifully put. I needed that reminder today. It reminds me of a very specific conversation near my desk.

This is genuinely helpful, thanks for writing it out.

Glad you shared it; small wins count. The chaotic constraint is probably the real story. Public transit stories are secretly sociology stories.

I am cheering for this update. The Kuala Lumpur example makes it feel concrete.

Adding this to my notes.

My version of this was messier, but the conclusion was similar. Honestly, the simplest version wins for me.

Small caveat: context changes the answer a lot.

The framing feels off to me. Not terrible, just not convincing.

I wish more posts had this much context. I learned that one the expensive way.

You explained the tradeoff really clearly.
