Today I Learned · by Tola Ibrahim · 2026-10-08

A surprisingly useful lesson from a trailhead without making it complicated

I tried this in Cairo with a friend and we both noticed the same thing: the social part mattered more than the perfect plan.

This is useful for some cases, but terrible advice if the stakes are high. I would test it for 6 days before deciding. Glad you shared the messy version too.

Same here. It took me too long to learn.

That last line is excellent. I used to overcomplicate this constantly. The follow-through matters more than the perfect plan.

What happened after the first week? I am curious whether lesson stayed easy. This is more useful on a tired quiet Sunday than on a perfect day.

I laughed, but you are not wrong.

I do not have a strong take, but the making detail is useful. The Kuala Lumpur example makes it feel concrete.

This feels a little overrated to me, even if the intention is good. The my desk detail changes the whole answer.

I agree with the goal and disagree with the method.

Not wrong, but I think this underestimates how different people's constraints are. I noticed the same thing in Kuala Lumpur.

The kindness in this post is lovely. This is more useful on a tired busy month than on a perfect day.

The context helps. Without it I would have assumed the opposite. I would love to see a follow-up after 4 weeks.

Amazing how much difference one small change can make. My only addition is to make the first step visible. I needed this reminder today.

This is the gentle version of my rant.

That is a surprisingly elegant way to frame it.

Glad you shared it; small wins count. I used to overcomplicate this constantly. Small progress still counts.

Appreciate the nuance.
