Today I Learned · by Rizky Pratama · 2026-10-08

A tiny story about banana bread, Mexico City and timing from my late summer notes

I tried this in Madrid with a friend and we both noticed the same thing: the social part mattered more than the perfect plan.

Would love to hear how other people handle this. I am especially curious about the version that works on a tired weekday, not just on an ideal Sunday.

A few notes from my attempt:
- keep the first step visible
- remove one annoying decision
- celebrate the boring repeat

This is probably obvious to veterans here, but it clicked for me only recently. facts got easier when I stopped treating every attempt like a final exam.

I like the idea, but the setup probably matters a lot. I keep a note about culture for exactly this reason. This is kinder advice than most of the internet manages.

I am cheering for this update. Honestly, the simplest version wins for me. Glad you shared the messy version too.

Glad you shared it; small wins count.

This is the kind of useful internet I still show up for. The Toronto example makes it feel concrete.

I am saving this for the next time I overthink banana. This would have saved me a lot of trial and error.

Love the tiny experiment energy.

Not wrong, but I think this underestimates how different people's constraints are. I noticed the same thing in Cape Town.

Big fan of this approach. The winter version is even more interesting.

I am mostly here for the follow-up. I would love to see a follow-up after 2 weeks.
