Today I Learned · by Aria Thompson · 2026-10-08

A gentle rant about science and expectations

Would love to hear how other people handle this. I am especially curious about the version that works on a tired weekday, not just on an ideal Sunday.

Part of me wanted the fancy version with all the tools. The better version was boring: one notebook, one reminder, and a willingness to be clumsy with the setup for a while.

Context: I am not an expert, just someone trying to make Today I Learned feel less intimidating. I wrote down what worked, what felt awkward, and what I would do differently next time.

I wonder how much of this depends on timing. The low-effort version is probably the keeper. Glad you shared the messy version too.

Short answer: yes. Long answer: also yes.

I agree with the goal and disagree with the method. The 4-minute rule is underrated.

I would push back gently on the expectations part. It sounds small, but the practice run matters.

The kindness in this post is lovely. The commute version is even more interesting.

Great point, especially the part about expectations. I would test it for 4 days before deciding. Glad you shared the messy version too.
