What is worth spending money on for budgeting as a beginner?

I tried this in São Paulo with a friend and we both noticed the same thing: the social part mattered more than the perfect plan.

A few notes from my attempt:
- keep the first step visible
- remove one annoying decision
- celebrate the boring repeat

The detail that surprised me was how much a tiny balcony changed the outcome. Same plan, different setting, completely different energy.

Run the numbers on a normal month and a bad month. If the plan only works in the normal month, it is probably too fragile. Honestly, the simplest version wins for me.

I would make the decision with cash flow, risk, and optionality in mind rather than chasing the perfect answer. You will learn more from a simple version repeated three times than from a perfect plan you never start.

- Keep one month of expenses visible in your checking buffer.
- Automate savings on payday.
- Avoid any plan you can only follow when life is perfect.

Come back with what happened; the details will make the next answer better.
