A beginner mistake I am weirdly glad I made that actually stuck

I know this is a tiny sample size, but after 8 attempts the pattern is pretty clear. When I keep the setup simple, I actually follow through.

Part of me wanted the fancy version with all the tools. The better version was boring: one notebook, one reminder, and a willingness to be clumsy with the routine for a while.

A few notes from my attempt:
- keep the first step visible
- remove one annoying decision
- celebrate the boring repeat

I had a disappointing first try, a surprisingly good second try, and then a third attempt that taught me humility. So, naturally, I now have opinions.

That last line is excellent.

I disagree a bit. stuck matters, but the bigger issue is usually expectations.

I would pin this if I could.

Can you share what you tried before this? I would test it for 10 days before deciding.

Did anyone else read this and immediately make a tiny checklist? The winter version is even more interesting.

I needed the reminder to start smaller.

Can you expand on that a bit?

Respectfully, I see it the other way.

That is the part people skip.

That is a good question for people with more experience than me. The useful part is easy to underestimate.

That sounds great until you add children/pets/deadlines.

That is fair, but I still worry about maintenance.

Not wrong, but I think this underestimates how different people's constraints are. It reminds me of a very specific conversation near the kitchen.

Thanks for making it less intimidating.

The kindness in this post is lovely. I would love to see a follow-up after 2 weeks. Public transit stories are secretly sociology stories.

Glad you shared it; small wins count.

Do you think this would work in a smaller place than Kuala Lumpur? The Mumbai example makes it feel concrete.

Good reminder that boring can be good.

You explained the tradeoff really clearly. The a family dinner detail changes the whole answer.

This is adorable and oddly motivating.
