What personal finance red flags do beginners miss when short on time?

I'm trying to make personal finance less intimidating. I tried this with a friend in Buenos Aires, and the social part mattered more than the perfect plan. The smallest change was the one I kept.

What red flags should beginners watch for when they don't have much time?

I'd think about cash flow, risk and flexibility rather than the perfect answer. If two options look equal, I'd favor the one that's easier to reverse.

My starting points: keep a month of expenses visible in a checking buffer, automate savings on payday, and avoid a plan that only works when life is perfect.
