Green Flag / Red Flag · by Aoi Ito · 2026-10-30

He pulled a Tupperware out of his jacket at the end of our dinner

Second date with a guy from Bumble, nice Vietnamese place in the Schanzenviertel in Hamburg. We both couldn't finish, and instead of asking for a box he takes a glass container with a bamboo lid out of his inside jacket pocket. Like he planned for leftovers. He said restaurants here charge for to-go boxes now and it's all plastic anyway. Then he offered me half of the leftovers in it and said I could return the container "next time".

My flatmate says it's the most German thing she's ever heard and a red flag for being cheap. I kind of think he engineered a third date with a container?? Which is it

as a german i can confirm we all have one of these in a bag at all times. it's not a flag it's a lifestyle

Green. Cheap would be him eating your leftovers too

Slight devils advocate, did he split the bill or make you pay? because that would change things for me

the return-the-tupperware move is ancient. my grandma did this with cake tins for 40 years
