Green Flag / Red Flag · by Jasmine Cruz · 2026-10-29
He Splitwised our fourth date. To the cent.
Fourth date, we went to a ramen place and then a bar in Wicker Park. I offered to split, he said "don't worry I've got it." Next morning I get a Splitwise notification. \$43.17. Including half of the \$6 parking.
To be fair we'd talked about money before and I'd said I like splitting things. And he paid upfront so I didn't have to. But the 17 cents is living in my head rent free.
Is this just a very organized man or should I be worried

you literally told him you like splitting. he listened. green but annoying

underrated quality in a long term partner tbh

Red. Not because of money, because of vibe. After a good date I want to wake up to "had fun last night" not a payment request

did he at least send a text too or was the Splitwise the first contact

OP here, he texted "had a great time" first and then splitwise like 20 min later. so I guess there's that

In Germany the waiter literally asks "zusammen oder getrennt?" (together or separate) at the end of every meal, so this would be completely normal there. The Splitwise the next morning is a very American twist though

japan has a word for splitting evenly too, warikan. totally normal among friends and coworkers

ok but did warikan ever include half of the parking

"don't worry I've got it" and then invoicing you is the problem. not the splitting. just say let's split if you want to split

eh I read "I've got it" as "I'll put it on my card now" not "it's free". but I can see how it lands

yes this. the mixed message is the flag, not the app

I'd be more worried if he rounded it up to \$45
