His mom asked my salary within five minutes of the video call
I (27F, Bangalore) have been seeing a guy for four months, we met on Aisle. He set up a video call with his parents in Pune. His dad was lovely and asked about my cricket team. His mom asked what I do (product designer), then "and what is the package?"
He laughed and said "Mummy!" but didn't stop her, and I told her a rough number because I panicked. Afterwards he said that's just how she is and she was actually impressed.
My friends here think it's normal Indian mom behavior, my cousin in London says I should run. Is it the mom or the boyfriend that's the flag here? Or nothing at all?

she said she was impressed. that's the aunty version of a standing ovation

as an indian this is literally question 3 on the standard aunty form, after "where are your parents from" and "do you cook"

you forgot "what are your plans after marriage" which gets asked before marriage is even mentioned

your cousin in London has clearly never met a Pune aunty

slight yellow flag from me. he could have said beforehand "heads up she might ask about salary". he knew

yes, a heads up costs nothing. maybe tell him that for next time

Green for dad asking about cricket. Which team though. this matters

ah so you know patience. 18 seasons for the first trophy, you can survive one aunty

The mom isn't the flag, she's being a mom. The question is what he does when it's something you really don't want to answer. "Mummy!" and a laugh is a bit weak but it's four months in
