He burned three pots of tahdig trying to make it for my birthday
I'm Iranian, grew up in Toronto, and my boyfriend (Canadian, family from Newfoundland) decided to secretly learn tahdig for my birthday. For anyone who doesn't know, it's the crispy golden rice at the bottom of the pot and it's notoriously hard to get right.
He practised for two weeks. My roommate told me he burned three pots. He called my MOM for advice without telling me. On my birthday it came out... mostly golden, a bit black on one side, and he flipped it onto the plate like it was a championship trophy.
My mom has now said he's "better than the last one" which is the highest praise she has ever given anyone. I already know the answer but tell me anyway

"better than the last one" from an iranian mom is basically a wedding announcement
