He calls his mom every day at 7pm, even in the middle of our dates

Dating for 2 months (I'm 33M, he's 35M, Phoenix). Every day at 7pm he calls his mom. 10 minutes, on the dot. Even when we're at dinner he steps outside to do it. Then I found out his dad passed away last year and she lives alone in Tucson.

I was a bit annoyed at first because once it was literally mid appetizer. Now I feel like a jerk for being annoyed. Green flag I should just respect? Or still weird to do it during a date?
